Beyonce has to be one of my favourite artists. Aside from her obvious beauty and ability to perform dance choreography capable of infiltrating every corner of the universe (hello, All My Single Ladies!) what I like best about her is her unbelievable, pre-drug ravaged Whitney Houston-esque talent. Crikey, this woman can sing! Unlike many "pop stars" who would not have a career without a little thing called "auto-tune," Beyonce has been honing IRL vocal talent since her pre- Destiny's Child days, singing in church choirs, school talent shows, and various local competitions.
I gained a new level of appreciation for her after attending the amazing, I Am... Tour in Sydney back in 2009. The arena was electrified with Beyonce's charismatic, girl power presence. After 2 hours of screaming and dancing, I found myself enjoying my curves a little more on the way home, not to mention feeling like I could do anything I wanted. Empowered is a word often overused, but I can't help but say that's exactly how she made me feel.
Since then I have been inspired by her dedication to, and obvious love for her work. Listening to her songs, it's clear that this remarkable woman has not only parlayed her passion into a successful career, but is confident and grounded enough to escape the train-wreck that has befallen many of her celeb compatriots. It's reassuring to see that (so far) Beyonce has flourished both professionally and personally amidst the fame, media circus, massive tours and intense scrutiny that surrounds her life.
I've just heard that Beyonce managed to upstage everyone, including Lady Gaga (!) at last night's VMA's, announcing her pregnancy with hubby Jay Z!!! [#Squeals with excitement.] Who else is wondering what unusual celeb baby-name trend this particular celeb-spawn will kick-off? (Wouldn't it be funny if they named their child something normal, like Jason, or Samantha?)
I'll leave you with this, Beyonce's latest beautiful song...and a closing wedding reception dance candidate for sure!
